Crawl Space to Basement Conversions

July 21, 2017

At Construction Solutions 911, we excel in many different types of work which is why we offer such a wide range of services. We combine concrete flatwork with basement finishing in a process called Crawl Space Conversion, to turn your old, dirty crawlspace into a beautiful basement.

A crawlspace is a narrow space left between the floor of a building and the ground, allowing a you to store items and easily access wires and pipes for maintenance and repair. Many houses have crawlspaces instead of basements.

A crawl space dig-out is the process of digging out and extending your current crawl space into a full size basement.

Construction Solutions 911 strongly recommends a professional for this service, since it alter the structure of your foundation, leading to bigger foundation repair issues. We have been performing dig outs for years, and complete the job in a timely manner, at an affordable rate.

How it Works

These steps explain how we dig-out a crawlspace to eventually create a full basement, or give yourself more room, without damaging the foundation of your house.

-Step 1

The process begins with jack hammering and digging down 7-9 feet depending on the basement height. As we dig and remove dirt and rock from the foundation, we add lolley columns for extra support throughout the basement.

-Step 2

Then we dig down an additional 10 inches around the perimeter to create space for the footer.  Rebar is installed within that space and filled with cement for horizontal structural support.

-Step 3

The existing walls are enforced and lined with more rebar in a crossing pattern and overtop of the rebar, and then we install wooden walls over top of the rebar to hold the concrete while it dries.  Section by section we pour the concrete walls and once they are dry, we remove the planks.

-Step 4

We line the entire floor with a plastic moisture barrier and put clean stone over top of that. Then a 6 inch by 6 inch wire mesh is placed over the stone in a crossing pattern, covering the entirety of the floor.

-Step 5

Lastly, we pour the concrete foundation and ensure that it is smooth and level.  For crawl space conversions we can turn existing entrances into larger ones, or create new ones using the same process. Exterior entrances generally exist through a bilco or walkout, which we also provide and install.

In addition to conversions and basement finishing in Southeastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware, Construction Solutions 911 offers many other additional home services, such as foundation repair, mold removal, egress windows and Bilco door installation.
